It's often described as a treatment that falls outside of mainstream healthcare.
These treatments range from acupuncture and homeopathy, to aromatherapy, meditation and colonic irrigation. Complementary therapy is used in conjunction with modern medical treatments, aiming to enhance the effects of modern medicine. Examples include acupuncture and massage therapy, which are often used in conjunction with cancer treatment to help relaxation.
Complementary therapy is often a word used by medical professionals, as a means of enhancing their overall health and well-being. In my opinion, complementary therapy can work hand-in-hand with modern medical treatments to address not just physical symptoms, but emotional and mental concerns as well.
The availability of complementary therapy on the NHS is limited. for more information from the NHS about complementary therapy
